Each medal is a Limited Edition Proof, 39 mm in diameter and struck in Sterling Silver.

Each of these medals weighs 1.03364 troy oz. With a total actual silver weight (ASW) of 47.8 troy oz. A nationwide art competition was held to select the obverse design of the 50 medals, with a first prize winner selected for each state. Each medal is a prize-winning work of art, and the complete collection reflects the special character of each of our United Sates. The reverse design of each medal was selected by The Bicentennial Commission of that state.
