Sword is in excellent condition. Very clean with very nice etchings. Also very nicely embellished with Sterling Silver. Mounting board has some scratches and dings (see pictures).

Beautifully wrought, authentically hallmarked, Vintage commemorative Sword of Sir Francis Drake. A Franklin Mint sword comes complete with original and fitted oak wall mount. The large double-edged hand-burnished tempered stainless steel blade, is etched with foliage, stands of arms, a crowned Tudor Rose and a globe. These intricate heraldic designs symbolizing the glory of Drake's achievements and his royal acclaim.
The hilt is embossed overall with scrolling foliage with wire bound grip. Drake carried out the second circumnavigation of the world in a single expedition, from 1577 to 1580. He was second-in-command of the English fleet against the Spanish Armada Invasion in 1588.The popular belief is that the original sword was presented to Drake by Queen Elizabeth I in the late 1500s, and she subsequently knighted him in 1581. The sword measures 114cm (45 inches) in total length, with blade at widest part measuring 5cm (2 inches). Hand guard measures 22cm (9 inches) wide and hilt/pommel measures 7cm (2.7 inches) wide. Showcased on an elegant mahogany or oak hardwood like display board, (mounted with a plaque) which measures 139cm (55 inches) long by 35cm (14 inches) wide.
