This Franklin Mint Treasury of 12 Zodiac STERLING SILVER Medals is the first complete series sculptured by Gilroy Roberts who developed a new zodiac design concept by interweaving sign, symbol, and word in artistic harmony. Gilroy Robert is a one time chief engraver of the U. Mint and is best known for his portrait of John F Kennedy on the U.
His stylized initials GR appear on the Kennedy coin as well as each of the 12 Zodiac sign. The Zodiac, literally is the 12 special constellations that form the heavenly background of our Sun and planets. These are large medals at 39 mm and are marking STERLING on the edge of each medal. Each medal is 26.8 grams.
This larger set of zodiac medals is quite rare and was issued in 1970. The medal proofs are brilliant luster with a cameo finish. The album cover has become detached from the medal holder and can still be used as lid to cover the box of medals.
