The Bicentennial Bowl is an original work of art created on the occasion of our nation's Bicentennial to commemorate 200 years of American Independence. It is believed to be largest and heaviest commemorative silver bowl ever issued in the United States. Circling the bowl is a masterfully sculptured frieze presenting the dramatic sweep of our nation's 200-year-history - from the signing of the Declaration of Independence to the celebration of the Bicentennial. Included are scenes portraying the great migrations westward, the ordeal of the Civil War, the crossing of the continent by rail, the marvelous age of invention and the triumph of man's first landing on the moon. The frieze, measuring over 43 inches, is the most extensive single work ever undertaken by the sculptor of The Franklin Mint. The first bowl, bearing serial number 1, was presented to President Gerald R. Ford - for the people of the United States - at Bicentennial ceremonies in Philadelphia on July 4, 1976.
